CWC What You Did This Summer?- The Good, the bad and the ugly

Hello everyone its time for  a new challenge at Cooking with Cricut.  This week the challenge is -
What Did You Do This Summer?  Create a Vacation/Summer themed scrapbook layout.

I am giving my Summer the title of

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

For the good I entered 17 layouts and 11 other paper made items in the County Fair this year. Everyone of my projects one a ribbon. I also got hired by the local Scrapbook store to teach classes. I taught two last month and have 5 more scheduled and the classes are filling up fast.

So now for the Bad

Well I am going to be honest with you I didn't go on any vacation this Summer.
The ruin of my "Summer Fun" actually started in mid April.
We decided to have our bathroom remodeled this Summer.
We picked out cabinets, tile, colors, mirrors, had plans drawn and were very excited.

We hired a contractor that we have know for 7 years and we have always had great luck with. After three months of excuses and lies we realized we had a big problem. So when I started this layout I thought I actually would have these lovely pictures to put on my layout showing my wonderful new spa like bathroom. However what do I have? One big torn apart bathroom.
So how did I finish my Summer -
We have had to hire a lawyer and feel out tons of paper work to bond company, State License and Better Business in hopes of getting some of our money back. For now we can't proceed until the Bond company comes out to see everything.
So for my layout here is my two pages for my pics that I hope someday to be able to share with everyone.
Our Remodel title from Handyman cut at 2 inches
Ladder cut at 5 inches

Hammer cut at 4 inches
Paint Can and brush cut at 3 inches

And the Ugly this is what my bathroom looks like.  Lovely, isn't it?

Reminder- Blog Candy
Starting August 18th through August 31th I am going to draw one lucky winner by Random.org who leaves a comment and is a follower of my blog for a $10  Gift Card to Michaels.
I will also draw one lucky new follower for a goody bag.  I now have 603 followers which is amazing to me.
So thank you all!
Please join us for the challenge this week at CWC .  I would love to see your Vacation/Summer themed layouts and live vicariously through all of you.  LOL Don't forget to link up to CWC by  Tuesday.

It's Back to School for most of the country this time of year.  So today at BBTB2 my wonderful friend and Design Team sister Brenda asked us to design a "Back to School Project.
It will be so fun seeing what all the Design Team member have created.
For my project I designed a mini book for my granddaughter Kenzie who started preschool this past week.  She is going to preschool two days a week and was one tired puppy after her first day of school.

The book base came from Creative Imaginations.
This is the cover.
Paper is DCWV School stack from Michaels
Kenzie's name is cut from Nate's ABC

This is the book open with Preschool cut from Nate's ABC and backed with 1 inch circles.
When you pull the book it opens like this and spells out Preschool
Some pages have pockets and tags
I
Some have little mini books
Photo mats

I used Locker Talk, Recess, and Nate's ABc
Embellishments
Ribbon from Stash

Lasting Memories Summer's End Wind Down

I don't know about you  but my Summer break was over for me this week.    My daughter who teaches children with Autism started  her new school year  Monday and I started babysitting
my 21 month old granddaughter Kenzie again.  Boy did she wear me out this week.
Summer went by so fast and
before we know  it Kenzie's little brother will be arriving in early October.

For the Lasting Memories challenge this week
"It's Summer End Wind Down"

I fell in love with this paper by Best Creations called Sunny Days.
The Adirondack chair is from Life's a Beach
I used an EK Success corner punch for the mat.
Also used an MS punch, rick rack, and twine.
The bicycle was cut from Hello Spring

I shared another layout with this Yummy paper last week
for the CWC  Taste of Summer Blog Hop.

I hope you will join us for the challenge this week at Lasting Memories.   Your wonderful creations inspire us every week.  Don't forget it must be a layout and make sure you link up by Saturday.
Happy Craftin!

DCWV Stack-a-holic card

Wow things have been so crazy lately that I almost forgot to post my card for the DCWV stack-a-holic template challenge for August.
I had just bought another  stack of the Summer paper and knew right away what I wanted to do.

All the papers are from the Summer stack and cardstock. I added a MS punch to the side and some twine.
The papers are so colorful and fun.  The words were cut from a page to enhance the Summer Message and flags of different colors.  The sun button was from embellies in my stash.
Here is the sketch

CWC Thank you Melin Surprise Blog Hop

Welcome to Cooking With Cricuts very special SURPRISE “Thank You” Blog Hop. Why is it so special? There are a couple of reasons! The first reason -- it is our 100th Cooking With Cricut challenge and the second (and most important) is to thank our wonderful leader and “Executive Chef” Melinda Beltran.
Melin started the Cooking With Cricut challenges in October 2010 to encourage crafters to find new and different ways to use their Cricut cartridges. And she has accomplished that and so much more! She has given scores of crafters a place on her Design Teams which quickly turned into a sisterhood of women, who care for each other; who encourage each other; who lift each other and their families up in prayer; and who have shared their hearts and their art through many outreach projects.

On a personal note I think Melin is uber talented and the most amazing supportive Christian woman.
I am blessed to be on her design team and work with her and the other ladies.

If you have arrived from my Design Team sisster Olivia at Orm Crafty Nights you are in the right place.  If not or to start at the beginning please go to Cooking with Cricut to start the hop.

For my project I used the Imagine cart Word of Mouth and made a 6 x 6 twisted easel.
The flowers are from the Cricut cart Flower Shoppe.
I covered all the layers of the flower cuts with Glossy Accents.  Then after it dries used a bamboo skewer to curve the petals.  They stay really well that way and don't flatten out.

This week at Bitten by the Bug 2  the talented Carole asked us to design a "Vacation or holiday" project..  I was really excited to create something using my brand new Imagine Good Ol Days cartridge.  I love a lot of the vintage look images on this cart (although I think some are sort of goofy.)
This is one of my favorites so I created a card.

The polka dot background paper , the postcard, and the relax is from Canvas Corp
I added twine to match the polka dots and used a Kraft paper base.
I found a stamp in my stash to add to the postcard and inked the edges.

DCWV Stack-a-holic template challenge- Peek a boo Its' a Boy

Time to share my layout for the DCWV stack-a-holic template Challenge for August.  Each month DCWV provides a layout sketch and a card sketch for you to design with.
Here is the layout sketch for this month and I fell in love with it right away.

This is my page using the new DCWV Boy stack.  The pics are of the ultrasound to find out the gender of our new grandchild.  After two generations of only girls and three granddaughters in a row we were thrilled to find out it was a boy.
One of the first things I did was buy the DCWV stack.
The peek a boo title is from B is for Boy cut aqt 3 inches.
The circle is from Lacey Labels cut at 3.5 inches
The banner was made using a 1" circle punch.
The little turtles from my stash matched the turtle on the journal tag
This is the second page of the actual ultrasound pics to go with the first layout.

Child's Play Challenge- Oh the Places You'll Go

One of the challenges at Child's Play is Oh the Places You Will Go.  I decided to use these pics of my middle granddaughter at the Dodger game with her dad on Father's Day this year.  They went last year too so guess this will be a tradition since Daddy is a fanatic Dodger fan.
Don't you love those Dodger blue eyes?

Cooking with Cricut Challenge- Back to School

It's time for another awesome challenge at Cooking with Cricut .  This week the challenge is Back to School.  I retired two years ago after teaching school for over 33 years.  Now Back to School means I will be babysitting my middle granddaughter again when her mommy goes back to teach.  For my project I decided to try making an "apple for the teacher" using the Sweet Tooth Boxes Cartridge.   I cut the top of the cupcake/ice cream cone cut at 11.5 and the bottom at 11.25.  That way the lid would fit over the top.
I used some leftover Graphic 45 School paper, twine, and ribbon.  Also some of the Graphic 45 stamps.
The leaves on the top were cut at 2 inches from Accent Essentials
and the stem was made from rolled Kraft paper.  Makes a fun, quick treat box you can feel with goodies to start the school year off right.
Other side
Thanks for joining us at Cooking with Cricut this week.  I hope you will join us for the challenge and link up your projects at CWC.  We love to see your creations.  Happy Craftin!

BBTB2 "Elephantly Speaking" Challenge

This week at BBTB2 the lovely Shelly came up with the fun challenge for all of us "Elephantly Speaking."  I found this adorable little guy on the Holiday Cakes cartridge page 38 cut at 3 inches.
One of our BBTB2 follower recently made a card using the Folded Angle Card.  I had benchmarked the tutorial link so decided to give it a try.
Ckick for Tutorial
I am giving this to my daughter. She is a Special Ed teacher and has just finished two years of Saturday classes and extra work load as she works to clear her credential.  I know it was a lot of work and I am really proud of her.
The stamp is from a Stampin Up set
Paper K and Company
Number 11 cut from Birthday Bash 2 inches.
Remember you have two weeks to join us for the  "Elephantly Speaking" challenge and one more week to join in for the "Fly Away" Challenge.  Happy craftin!
